Wi-Fi QR codes: a setup guide for homes and venues
Find your network details, pick the right security type and print a card guests can scan in one tap.
A Wi-Fi QR code stores your network name, security type and password in a standard format. Recent iPhone and Android cameras recognise it and offer to join the network, with no typing.
Find your network details
- Network name (SSID): shown in your phone’s Wi-Fi list, or on the label of your router.
- Password: on the router label, unless you changed it.
- Security: most networks use WPA2 or WPA3. Choose “WPA / WPA2 / WPA3” in that case.
Both the name and the password are case-sensitive. A single wrong letter and phones won’t connect.
Hidden networks
If your network doesn’t broadcast its name, switch on “This is a hidden network” so phones know to look for it.
Use a guest network
Anyone who scans the code can read the password. For shops, offices and rentals, share a guest network that is separated from your main devices.
QR Studio builds the code in your browser. Your password is never sent to our servers.
Print and place it
Print the code at least 5 cm wide and put it where people ask for the password: by the router, on the fridge, at reception or on table cards. If you change your password, make a new code.
